After reading Time Killer by Todd Thiede I just knew I had to read Lies to Die For. It was a high suspenseful roller coaster that the author took us on. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. The pure imagination of the author was impeccable and the details were amazing really detailed and outlined the storyline.This is the second home run from this author that I have read therefore I can easily say i not only high recommend this novel but any other piece of writing from Todd M. Thiede. Great job!

I absolutely love suspense books and was of course excited to read the latest from Todd Thiede’s series. And, I have to say, that Lies to Die for kept me on the edge of my seat. I actually liked it even better than Time Killer. Note you don’t have to read the first book in order to understand Lies.
The action moves along quickly and the characters are memorable. Even some of the characters who are only in the book for a few chapters(and are later murdered) had me really feeling for them. The author has a way of capturing the true spirit of every character. There is enough details in the action scenes that I felt like I was on the scene but not too much that I was left feeling grossed out by any intricate detail.
And, although the main story surrounds a thrilling drama filled investigation, I also enjoyed the side stories of the romantic relationships of Detective Max and Jesse as well as some of the minor characters. The book is a real page turner and I will eagerly wait for the next installment.
Another detective novel comes to life from writer Todd M. Thiede. He delivers a powerhouse second book, and continues the Max Larkin series. From the start, you get no punches pulled, as it follows through with a very good amount of action. Like a good thriller, it starts with something unique, a mystery develops, but never so abrupt that you’re left wondering.
Max Larkin and Jesse Fairlane once again play on their relationship in the cop world, one that has been done on film many times, but here it seems surreal. It is down to earth but not in a simplistic manner. There are layers that start to develop from the start, and the frustrations of the case get to them as the victims start to appear. Is it random? Is it a serial killer? There’s so much to this novel and it’s not a long one.
I can appreciate the author’s levity at times, as the dialogue doesn’t overly describe every minutia, it allows you to use imagination, and follow through this book like a movie. I found it well written, and can definitely see this going further. A small town, two detectives, and murders that are rocking the place, are all components to an interesting book, and well worth investing into. It has all the key points that you’d expect from a detective book, but with several twists that will have readers gripped until the final reveal.

I found this to be a mysterious and clever plot, with well built characters, vivid murder scenes, comedy, and a little romance.
It was well written and edited correctly. I would highly recommend `Lies To Die For' and will definitely be reading more books by Todd M. Thiede!
From the opening chapter of this book, the author keeps you tied into the story with detail and excellent dialogue.
One of my favorite aspects of the book was the relationship between the detectives. They are more human and their relationship isn't exactly ideal and that makes the story all the more believable. In many detective stories the authors spend so much time focusing on the plot and the villains that they forget the fact that detectives and the "good guys" aren't always like an episode of chips.
The story is very well written and the suspense will keep you turning pages until the end. The author's attention to detail is what makes this book shine and while the story overall is probably an 8/10 in my opinion, the writing brings it past a high-nine and makes it a great book. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an excellent entertaining detective novel with a unique plot.
This book captured my attention at the very first page and held it till the last! It is said a good novel must have a conflict in every page, and that's just what I encountered here. Detectives Max and Jessie are real people with their strong and weak sides. Their clashes with their boss Captain Perry, their colleagues and each other, their getting over personal problems were not less interesting to follow than the main storyline.
What I liked most about Lies to Die for is that it does NOT fall into the popular trend of creating a charismatic, Hannibal Lector type villain who outshines the good guys. The murderer here is obviously wrong since the very first appearance, inspiring fear, disgust, even a bit of pity closer to the end but not a bit of admiration or sympathy.
A couple of words about the prose. I'm fond of stories written in present tense - it makes me feel like I'm witnessing everything that happens. And the dialogues are as lively and natural as in a good film.
I'd recommend Lies to Die for to everyone who loves the genre of criminal mystery, as well as to those just discovering it. I think I'll buy the other book of this series too.
